About Us
The Friends of Rutherford House Society is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to the continued operation and restoration of Rutherford House for the public.
Our Mission:
The Friends of Rutherford House Society seeks to generate community involvement, creative ideas and additional revenues to further the restoration and operation of historic Rutherford House for the public.
Our History:
In April of 1985, the Friends of Rutherford House Society was created as a charitable society intended to assist in the preservation of the house and to enhance educational, cultural and recreational activities for the visiting public. Continuing on the commitment to the community that Rutherford family and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity established at the House, the Society has always offered opportunities for involvement within the House.
Over the years, the Society has created many projects that benefit the House, employed hundreds of people and has worked to carry on the Rutherford tradition of gracious hospitality through a wide variety of services.
The House Today:
A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Society and employs a staff of 5 full-time and 9 part-time employees and ensures the interests of the membership are represented. In order to function within Rutherford House, the Society is under several contractual agreements with the Alberta Government and Culture & Community Spirit, as they hold the lease with the owners - the University of Alberta.
